“We Trust Our Eyes Too Much - Revisiting The Creative Process in Residential Architectural Photography”
Simon will challenge the traditional paradigms of perception, asserting that other senses. Touch, hearing, even smell – can foster deeper connections to the structures we're photographing and result in more dynamic, emotive imagery. By sharing unconventional techniques and insights, you will be encouraged to re-think your creative process, framing architectural photography not merely as a documentation of physical structures, but as a multi-sensory experience that can elicit the true essence of a space, transcend its physicality, and, most importantly, tell its unique story.

She will be discussing her entire career trajectory from fine art photography student to partner at one of the top architectural photography firms in the country. The main thread that will be repeating throughout her talk will be all about patience and intentionality - her approach to her career as well as how she photographs the built environment. She will also be abe to share her experience as a young female in the industry and some barriers that she had to overcome.
-
Double Space, Architecture Photography
“The Intentional Frame”
Whether we are tethered to a tripod and laptop or walking about snapping images outdoors, our image-making process centres around one basic tenet: intent. We do not have a formula or one-size fits all approach. Whether it's lens choice, camera positioning, time of day, lighting, every element is carefully considered in light of what we are trying to say with the image. Younes and/or Amanda will discuss the ins and outs of their visual language.
-
Tanveer Badal, Hotel & Travel Photographer
“Blending Hotel and Travel Photography”
I entered the world of architectural photography from shooting hotels, which are typically part of a travel editorial assignment. My hospitality/architectural clients typically hire me for the natural/editorial aspect of my work.
They want the photos to feel like travel photos, even if they're architectural in nature. However, I think it's important to learn proper architectural techniques and lighting before going for the more natural approach.
During my talk at Shifter Summit 2024, I'll discuss my career trajectory and how I blend the worlds of travel and architecture to create images that make the viewer want to be in that world -
